Students ages 5-16 will collaborate to design and build their own set and costumes, create choreography, and explore the history of this text—and others— to perform a unique version of the story.
Camp Dates: July 24th- August 5th (2 weeks)

Performances will be held at Emerson Hall on August 5th and 6th. Actors arrive at 6pm.

Registration fee, $20. Scholarships available! Contact Tracy Lameyer at tlameyer@adamsschool.com

Ages 5-10: The children's group will play theatre games, learn basic performance skills, and engage in ensemble-building. We will help to create the play, construct props and costumes, as well as participate in rehearsals with the young adult group. The children's group provides a relaxed yet stimulating creative environment, with a curriculum tailored to the group.

Ages 11-18 The young adult's group will engage in more intensive training in voice, devising, movement, dramaturgy, and performance as they collaborate to create and rehearse this play. The final production or showcase is an ensemble creation. The curriculum is tailored to the specific interests of individual students as well as the overall sensibility of the group. Past areas of focus have included performance technique, dance and choreography, puppetry, and sound design, among others.

Teacher Bio:
Georgia Williamina Zildjian grew up in Castine, and went on to earn a BFA in Theatre Arts from Boston University's School of Theatre. Since then, she has worked at Portland Stage Company as a directing and dramaturgy intern, and as a freelance theatre artist and educator in the Portland and Midcoast area. In 2016 she co-led the Ellsworth High School One Act Ensemble to victory at the regional completion with her original piece, BOUND. Last spring, she received a grant from the Maine Arts Commission to produce a play with the children of Castine, Island Boy. This year she produced her 4th original play in the Portland Fringe Festival. 2017 will be her eighth year leading Castine theatre camp! This fall, she will return to Boston University to pursue her masters in Theatre Education.

A description of the play. How was it conceived/created etc.
The play will be adapted into a theatrical piece by the students from the Picture book "Island Boy" by Barbara Cooney. We will likely pull from other Maine texts, such as the poetry of Edna St. Vincent Millay.
