Play-Reading Group at Witherle Library

Category: General/Other

April 8, 2026; 4:30 to 6:00

Location

Witherle Memorial Library

We will be reading ‘A Doll’s House, Part 2’ by Lucas Hnath. Copies of the script are available at the library.

In the final scene of Henrik Ibsen's 1879 ground-breaking masterwork, ‘A Doll’s House,’ Nora Helmer makes the shocking decision to leave her husband and children, and begin a life on her own. This climactic event — when Nora slams the door on everything in her life — instantly propelled world drama into the modern age. In A Doll’s House, Part 2, fifteen years have passed since Nora’s exit. Now, there’s a knock on that same door. Nora has returned. But why? And what will it mean for those she left behind in Lucas Hnath’s bitingly funny, Tony-nominated stand-alone sequel to Ibsen’s revolutionary masterpiece? (Playbill synopsis)

Notes- ‘A Doll’s House Part 2’ stands on its own as a riveting play, but if readers wish to revisit Henrik Ibsen’s classic play ‘A Doll’s House,’ it can illuminate aspects of Hnath’s play. There is a beautiful and deeply moving film made of A Doll’s House, 1992, by the BBC, with Juliet Stevenson and Trevor Eve, which can be found on Youtube-
