Book Reading and String Ensemble

Category: Literary Arts

Sunday, May 19, from 3 to 6pm

Location

The Castine Grange, route 166, Castine.

Author Edith Schriever and the Greater Sedgwick String Ensemble will present a weaving of music and Shriever’s words in a reading from Schriever’s novel, Talos and the Yellow Suitcase. As stated on the book jacket of this work, “Edith Schriever grew up in the Netherlands, where she worked as a teacher.  Her family moved to Maine, where she is raising three children and works in education. Listening to her students and her own children and hearing their stories and perspectives on difficult topics such as depression and anxiety resulted in her first book, Talos and the Yellow Suitcase.”

The subject matter is mature as it follows the journey of a child profoundly affected by tragedy and the pervasive grief and depression that ensues. After finding a remarkable yellow suitcase, Talos finally begins to ask questions questions essential for healing and the ability to move forward in life
The program is recommended for audience members ages 12 and older.

The program will be followed by a questions and answers session.
